Flexible aggregation provides more analysis options

The aggregation functionality in microdata.no has been improved and made more flexible.

For example, it is now possible to aggregate datasets from person level to county, municipality or even city district level as long as the underlying total number of individuals exceeds the system’s threshold for minimum allowed population size (currently a lower limit of 1000 individuals). The system now facilitates aggregation operations to any level, e.g. sex.

The extension of the aggregation functionality opens up a new area of use: Users may now generate data at any aggregate level, e.g. residence level (municipality/county/city district), and then connect this to a person level dataset where the aggregation variable (residence) is used as the merge key. Thus, sets of contextual information related to the place of residence can be constructed.
